This is why we have prepared this guide on how to get from the Lisbon Airport to Lisbon downtown, where you will probably be staying during your time there.

The Humberto Delgado or Portela Airport, better known as Lisbon Airport, has two terminals, is one of the biggest airports in Southern Europe, and handles more than 30 million travelers from all over the world per year. It is located only 7 km away from Lisbon center in the northeast direction, so it is not that close to the city center, but there are diverse transportation options that could be useful for you to get to your stay. Since you are on your way to downtown from the airport, we will say that your destination will be Cais do Sodré and to get there you will find the following options:

🚇 Metro:

The metro station “Aeroporto” is located right in front of the airport exit. With the metro, you can get to the center of Lisbon in around 30 minutes. To do so, you’ll have to buy the rechargeable Viva Viagem card at the metro station and charge it with enough money for one trip, the card will cost you €0.50 and the single trip fare is €1.50. You’ll have to take the Linha Vermelha towards São Sebastião and get off in Alameda, then wait for the Linha Verde and take the metro to Cais do Sodré. The Metro opens every day at 6:30 a.m. and closes at 1:00 a.m., including weekends and public holidays.

🚌 Bus:

To take the bus, you should also buy the Viva Viagem card at the metro station and the price will be quite similar, you could also pay directly on the bus and the price will be a little bit higher. However, to get to Cais do Sodré from the airport by bus it is not direct and you will need to take more than one bus, this will make it a little bit tricky if you don’t know the streets or where you are. Also, if you want to take the bus, you will have to consider that the maximum baggage size allowed in these buses is 50x40x20cm.

🚍 Aerobus:

An easy option to get to downtown is to take route 1 (line 91) of the Aerobus, which goes from the airport to Cais do Sodré which is the last stop and it will take you around 30 minutes to get to your destination. The buses are available every 20 minutes on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 11.20 p.m. and every 25 minutes on weekends and holidays from 7 a.m. to 10.50 p.m.

🚕 Taxi:

You can always find taxis at the airport exit, and it is as easy as jumping in on one of them. The price could depend on the traffic, but usually, the fare is between €20 to €30 and you will be in Cais do Sodré in more or less 15 minutes.

🚗 Uber:

A fast and affordable way to get to Cais do Sodré from Lisbon Airtport is to take an Uber, the price will depend on the demand and traffic but it will usually cost around €10 to €15 and the ride will be less than 15 minutes if it is not during rush hours.

Now that you know the options, you can decide which alternative is the best and most convenient for you to start your Lisbon workation!
